At least five people died in separate incidents in Nairobi.

Police described the incidents as sudden deaths and argued that some of the victims had a medical history.

The first incident was reported at Jonathan Ngeno estate, Langata, where John Onyonka, 68, died after arriving home.

He had driven to the entrance of his house and the housegirl opened it for him.

He, however, did not leave the car until after two hours later when they checked on him and established he was unresponsive.

Police were called to the scene and took the body to the mortuary, pending an autopsy to establish the cause of the death.

Along Tubman Road in the city centre, a taxi driver collapsed and died.

Colleagues of James Munyua, 68, said he collapsed while at work and they had not established the cause of the incident.

He had no physical injuries when police visited the scene and picked up the body.

Officials said they recovered medicine used to treat diabetes from his pockets.

In Mukuru slums, Lucy Muthoni, 31, collapsed in her house and died. In the same area, the body of Mueni Juma, 27, was found in her house long after she had died. The cause of the deaths is yet to be known.

And along Tom Mboya Street, a KDF soldier identified as Derick Kisilu collapsed and died. He was pronounced dead at the Forces Memorial Hospital in the city.

Police said they are investigating the incidents.

Meanwhile, two people died by suicide in two separate incidents in the city.

The first incident involved a Burundi national identified as Joshua Willybadi, 27, who was found dead in his house in Mutuini area.

A relative who had gone to visit him said he failed to pick up calls prompting him to call the police who broke into the house and found the body hanging from a rope in the sitting room.

In Ngong Forest, rangers found the body of Dennis Kiprop, 24, hanging from a rope after a suspected suicide.

The forest rangers called the police who moved the body to the mortuary. The motive of the two incidents is yet to be known. Police said an autopsy was planned on the bodies to establish how they died.

Police say cases of suicide have been on the rise in the past months amid calls to address them.

Some of the incidents are linked to societal stress, which needs to be managed properly.
