Uhuru appoints Zakayo Mapelu as chair of AIDS council

Zakayo will serve for a period of three years.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed Portland Cement ex-CEO Zakayo ole Mapelu as Non-Executive Chairperson of the National AIDS Control Council.

Zakayo will serve for a period of three years.

In a gazette notice dated March 25, the president said Zakayo's appointment was effected on the date of the issue.

At the same time, Uhuru appointed James Mandere Rodgers Atebe to be the Chairperson of the Pharmacy and Poisons Board, for a period of three years.

Uhuru also announced the appointment of Olive Mugenda to be the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital, for a period of three years.

Mugenda previously served as the Kenyatta University vice-chancellor, a position she retired from in 2016, after serving for 10 years.

She also serves as a member of the Judicial Service Commission, where she was elected chairperson during the recruitment of the current Chief Justice, Martha Koome.
