Granton Samboja ditches Kalonzo’s Wiper party for Jubilee

He will seek to defend his seat in August using Jubilee ticket.

Taita Taveta Governor Granton Samboja  is the latest Wiper Party elected governor to join the ruling Jubilee Party.

Samboja was elected on the Wiper Democratic Party of Kalonzo Musyoka in the 2017 general elections.

This is a move to make political realignment ahead of the August 9 elections.

He will seek to defend his seat in August.

Jubilee is one of the giant parties that forms the Azimio La Umoja Movement which has picked the ODM leader Raila Odinga as its presidential aspirant.

Samboja was welcomed to the party by the Jubilee secretary-general Jeremiah Kioni on Friday.

Former Taita Taveta Women Representative Joyce Lay, Voi MP Jones Mlolwa, and a host of MCAs, and aspirants who defected also joined the jubilee Party of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

On the same day, Kalonzo officially welcomed former Nairobi Governor Miko Sonko to the Wiper party.

Commenting on the step, Kalonzo said that the party is growing by the day.

Last week, Sonko tendered his resignation from the ruling Jubilee Party.

Last year, Samboja had started campaigning for Raila's presidential bid in the coastal area.
