Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi has rejoined Deputy President William Ruto's side.

This comes a few months after he ditched Ruto for ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Maangi, who has been an ODM member since December last year, seeks to succeed Governor James Ongwae in the August 9, polls.

He, among other leaders, was on Friday received by Ruto at his official Karen residence, Nairobi.

"Karibu mheshimiwa @MaangiJoash, Dr Andrew Maubi and Wakili Migos Ogamba to the Hustler Nation. You are joining the team that believes in Kenya kwanza and empowering ordinary people. Wishing you success in your bids for several seats in Kisii County," Ruto said.

His exit sets the stage for Senator Sam Ongeri and Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati to battle it out for the ODM party ticket.

Maangi had pledged to continue implementing the development projects of Governor Ongwae.

“Ongwae has done extremely well, let's wish him well. Much of what is required now is to build on what he has already done,” the deputy governor said.

His shift comes days after the UDA party National Treasurer Omingo Magara quit the party.

Magara said he made the decision after considerable reflection and consultation with his people of Kisii County.

"..my political future and ambitions cannot be sufficiently addressed by the UDA party. I therefore immediately resign as a party member and as a treasurer.

"The voice of the people is ultimately the voice of God," he said.
