SONKO: Why me, now? I won't be cowed

I am not the only Kenyan politician who has been charged with corruption, so why me?

In Summary
  • I have not been convicted by our courts, thus leaving me with more questions than answers on what the US Department of State is aware of in the outcome of my case.
  • I challenge the office of the DPP, DCI to table evidence and prove beyond reasonable doubt that I am indeed corrupt.

Why Sonko, why now, just a few months to the general election? It is with shock and disbelief that I have received the news that the US embassy has declared me and my family persona non grata in America.

This is a strategic political move to silence me and curb my political ambitions, but I will never be cowed.

Am I the only politician facing a corruption case in Kenya? I am indeed shocked by the move taken by the US Department of State to designate my family and I in what they allege as involvement in significant corruption in Kenya.

The Judiciary is currently addressing over 400 cases of corruption, 20 of which are facing politicians. The move is obviously politically motivated by my political rivals to deny me my right as a Kenyan Citizen to prove that I am indeed innocent.

Secondly, I have not been convicted by our courts in the matter mentioned, thus leaving me with more questions than answers on what the US Department of State is aware of in the outcome of my case.

Thirdly, I am not the only Kenyan politician who has been charged with corruption cases, so why me?

In addition, I challenge the office of the DPP, DCI to table evidence and prove beyond reasonable doubt that I am indeed corrupt, than waste the  court's precious time in this politically-inspired case.

I respect the rule of the law, I have faith in our Judiciary and I am sure and ready to prove that I am not corrupt.

Lastly, I urge the Judiciary, through the office of Chief Justice, to hasten over 400 corruption cases that have been tossed in our courts and that have been dragging for years without conviction to avoid such premature moves on innocent Kenyans.
