KDF soldiers on Wednesday killed one al Shabaab militant in Lamu County's Milimani area during an early morning patrol.

A statement from the strategic communication unit said the troops, who are part of Operation Amani Boni, were patrolling along the Milimani-Baure Main Supply Route when they encountered the armed militants.

"During the morning encounter, one al Shabaab militant was killed while several others fled with multiple injuries. The soldiers recovered one Ak-47 rifle and three magazines," the statement said.

It added that the soldiers are in pursuit of the injured fugitives.  The troops did not suffer any casualties or injuries.

"KDF soldiers alongside other security agencies under Operation Amani Boni remain committed to pacifying the area and degrading the al Shabaab terrorists," the statement said.

KDF has in recent months carried out successful attacks against the armed terror cell, whose origin is Somalia.

On January 18, police said they killed 15 al-Shabaab militants who were hiding in a camp in Boni forest.

The police said the group was suspected of being behind a series of night attacks on villages in Lamu County that left 13 people dead.

On February 26, the KDF killed another four al Shabaab militants during a security operation in Boni forest.
