Businessman Jimi Wanjigi has ditched the ODM party and joined the Safina party.

Speaking at Serena Hotel on Wednesday, Wanjigi said he will seek to become Kenya’s next president under the Safina party.

"I did assure Kenyans that I will be on the ballot on August 9. And where I will be, it is where the next government will be formed. It will be a government of the people of Kenya and for the people of Kenya. Today, I have officially become a member of Safina Party," Wanjigi said.

He added that ODM was the first party he ever joined.

“We were in a home called ODM and that was the party that I first ever joined in 2018. I joined ODM believing that our ideology, our policies especially espoused in the election of 2017, were still in sync," he said.

He added, "When we got together as NASA, we talked about Canaan. We envisioned for Kenyans a way from what we termed as oppression and backward policies of the Jubilee Govt."

He went on to state that his exit from ODM was because he was kicked out of ODM during the party's National Delegates Convention (NDC) at Kasarani stadium.

"I resigned from ODM after the brutal violence I experienced at Kasarani during the ODM National Delegates Conference. Hon. Raila made it practically impossible for the Party to hold free, democratic and credible Presidential nominations," he said.

Last month, Wanjigi accused Raila and President Uhuru Kenyatta of working hard to stop him from vying for office.

He accused the two of planning to do whatever it will take to stop him.

"Mr Odinga is in cohort with President Uhuru Kenyatta and they want to stop my presidential bid by whatever means but I will not be a cowed," he said.
