Deputy President William Ruto on Monday said he has no qualms with President Uhuru Kenyatta following his decision to back ODM leader Raila Odinga for the presidency.

Speaking to BBC, Ruto said the President has a right to choose whoever he deems fit for the top seat.

The DP, however, appeared to suggest that President Uhuru has to battle it out with his conscience for betraying a friend who stood with him at the hour of need.

"I'm not bitter, I supported Uhuru unconditionally. It is Uhuru to fight with his conscience," Ruto said.

He added: "You have a friend who has stood by you in every election you have run and then in the last minute you decided that he did not deserve your support".

The DP maintained that he supported Uhuru not to be given the same favour back but because of their friendship.

He noted that he made the right decision which he does not regret to date.

"When I decided to support Uhuru my boss, I did it out of goodwill and friendship. I am confident that I did the right thing. I don't regret it because we managed to bring the country together," Ruto said.

On Uhuru changing his mind in the near future in order to support him, the DP said:

"It is up to his conscience if he finds it okay to have publicly stated it that way (that he will support Ruto), and go back to it, for whatever reason, that is up to him."

Ruto said he is well prepared for the battle ahead of him adding that it has never been easy for him since he joined politics.

He revealed that he has been battling many hurdles in his quest to ascend to power and the August 9, polls will not be an exception.

"I have never had anything on a silver platter. I have had to put up with all manner of prejudices. Even today there are lots of machinations over my candidature," he said.

Ruto's 12-day tour of the US and UK has seen him launch a series of tirades at his boss Uhuru and Raila.

The DP has made remarks that have alluded to planned manipulation of the August 9, poll to his disadvantage while at the same time maintaining the his votes cant be stolen.

Raila is next week expected to travel to the UK where he will also have an opportunity to address at the Chatham House.
