Saku MP aspirant promises to focus on education, insecurity

Contestant outlined hi s plan for constituency pledging to initiate development

Saku MP aspirant Halkano Wako on Saturday got the blessing of elders and residents to vie at a colourful event at Dub Goba in sagante jaldesa ward.

Wako in his acceptance speech promised to face his opponents with courage.

"I humbly accept this great honour and pledge through your support to deliver leadership," he said.

He outlined a plan for the constituency once elected, that would transform the area from its current state of underdevelopment and vowed to bring changes where education and insecurity will be the hallmarks of his development agenda.

The former chief financial officer promised to use his background in corporate to ensure efficient management of resources. He also promised to focus on young people through partnership with different organisations to create more opportunities for them.

He encouraged youths in the constituency to study technical courses like plumbing, building, and construction, electric and electronic engineering which are in high demand, and promised to build a technical training institution in the area.

The endorsement marks the beginning of a stiff political contest that is shaping up in the region, that is largely affected by tribal conflicts.

Hundreds of displaced residents from Olla Daaba have yet to return to their homes fearing for their lives with school-going children mostly affected by the  tribal conflicts.

Some of the grazing areas within the Saku constituency are still a no-go zone.

The Saturday event was supposed to bring three aspirants from the Borana community together with the aim of having a single candidate to face the incumbent.

However, two other aspirants failed to turn up after the organiser of the event and the community elder through FM station announced the postponement of the programme. Majority of the elders disagreed with him.
