A senior Prisons boss has been giving instructions at an institution of the department, despite being required to be on terminal leave because he is due to retire in February. Staff at the Prisons department tell Corridors of Power that senior bosses due to retire had formed the habit of working beyond the retirement age until they are forced out of office. They say the senior officers want their services to be retained yet they do not have any specialised skill or training that other officers cannot provide after their exit. Staff are asking Prisons boss Brigadier (Rtd John Warioba (pictured) to force senior staff to emulate junior officers who adhere to retirement guidelines.

A senior official in one of the security agencies who had declared interest in vying for a governorship in the coming polls seems to be reassessing his options. The man had told all who cared to listen that he would resign his post last December and hit the ground running. But contacted lately, he claimed he was still buying time given the law requiring early resignation was suspended by a court, albeit temporarily. Even more interesting, he has slowed down his village meetings and no longer receives delegations from upcountry that want his freebies. Corridors of Power understands the man's poor relationship with the people on the ground could be the reason for reassessing his options.

Did someone high up in the government power structure threaten a presidential appointee after he endorsed a particular State House aspirant? Though his political leaning was not in doubt even before he declared it, the pattern of his social media behaviour suggests something is tormenting him after he went public. The man has been posting Bible verses, quoting historical figures and declaring his fearlessness on social media, messages that appear to be defying unnamed targets. A little bird has whispered to Corridors that the man is deeply worried for his job and that he suspects 'the deep state' wants him fired. His associates complain that his timing was poor, arguing that he should have bought time till the last minute, given that he is not running for any seat in the coming polls.

A group of politicians from Kakamega allied to the Deputy President William Ruto and ANC  leader Musalia Mudavadi is said to be unhappy with a businessman from the area for attending a certain political meeting. The businessman is a renowned investor and those opposed to his 'visit' feel that their opponents are using the investor to dupe locals into supporting their camp. The investor is believed to have the capacity to mobilise support and finances for the August 9 campaigns.
