Deputy President William Ruto on Tuesday asked ODM leader Raila Odinga to 'respect' the youth, telling him to invest in them instead of offering 'handouts'.

The DP, who has sustained his attacked on Raila's Sh6,000 social empowerment programme for the poor, said the young people need capital to do business and jobs.

"Let us stop using the youth to throw stones. They want jobs and capital for businesses so that they can also prosper," Ruto said when he toured Lang'ata and parts of Kibra constituency.

He claimed his opponents have resorted to politics of intimidation.

"Stop the culture of throwing stones, stop fighting us; we are a peaceful people and all we want is for you to sell your agenda so that Kenyans can make a choice," Ruto said.

"Kenyans are very intelligent, they know which policy is better than the other and they will make a decision. You don't have to throw stones," he added.

The DP, who has claimed the ODM leader's camp has been organising violence targeting his campaigns, said he will soldier on to campaign in every party of this country without fear.

"Don't waste your time thinking you can blackmail us and threaten us with violence so that you can get our votes," Ruto said, insisting nobody will get votes through violence.

His campaigns on Monday sought to project his presidency as the panacea to the social ills facing Raila's Nairobi bases.

The DP said his administration will prioritise mega projects aimed at providing millions of Lang'ata and Kibra residents with clean water.

Ruto promised to ensure the ongoing Northern Water Collector Tunnel project delivers clean water to Lang'ata and Kibra areas, if elected president.

He said his administration will endeavour to complete the project to address water scarcity in Lang'ata.

"We have already pumped Sh1.2 billion into the project, as we finish it in the next few months, part of our priority will be to deal with the water problem here once and for all," the DP said.

Ruto lashed out at Raila, whom he has accused of doing little to improve the lives of the people of Lang'ata and Kibera, despite serving as area MP for many years.

At the same time, he revealed that the Northern Corridor, Ruiru and Karimenu dams, once complete, will be crucial in supplying water to Lang'ata.

"This Lang'ata is known for lack of water but the work we have done, especially the pipeline passing here from Kabete, through Kibera to Wilson Airport will deliver enough water for this area," he said.

The DP also said his administration will complete the Karen business complex that is designed to be a two-storey building.

"We shall make it a four-storey complex so that it can accommodate all our business people," he said.

The DP has sustained his aggressive campaigns in Nairobi, targeting Raila's bases as he seeks to bolster his chances in the August 9, General Election.
