Expect moderate rains in Nairobi and environs - Met department

Nairobi would experience moderate to light rains in the afternoon.

Moderate rains are expected in parts of the country next week, Kenya Meteorological Department has said.

Met director Stella Aura said the moderate to heavy rainfall is likely to occur in some areas from January 15 to 19.

The areas include; Lake Victoria Basin, Highlands West of the Rift Valley, Central and South Rift Valley, the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, Nairobi, parts of North-Western, North-Eastern, South Coast and South-Eastern lowlands.

"Some parts of North-Eastern, North-Western and the Coastal region are likely to remain sunny and dry," she said.

She said strong south-easterly winds with speeds, approximately 25 knots (12.9 m/s) are expected over some parts of North-Western and North-Eastern.

In Nairobi, rainfall is expected in some areas. She said Nairobi would experience moderate to light rains in the afternoon between 12 pm - 6 pm and towards 6 pm to 6 am.

"Daytime highs are expected to be between 25 degrees Celsius and 28 degrees celsius while nighttime lows are likely to be between 13 degrees Celsius and 16 degrees celsius," she said.

According to the forecast, the mornings are likely to be sunny with occasional light rains in Mathare, Kasarani, Ruaraka, Kamukunji, Makadara, Embakasi, Westlands, Dagoretti, Kibra, Langata and Starehe.

Maximum temperatures within the forecast period will range from 28 degrees Celsius to 26 degrees celsius.

The minimum temperature will range from 17 degrees Celsius to 13 degrees celsius.
