Whenever we talk of the 2022 presidential race, we are often told it is shaping up into a two-horse race.

Whatever that means. The media is busy at work, treating us to a galore of loud ululations about 'hustler nation', banana republic and a cocktail of other familiar catchphrases and punchlines.

There's too much noise about "Baba" climbing the mountain or UDA forming the next government.

This is an election where the so-called top contenders want to claim victory just on the strength of cultist populism, as opposed to reasonable discourse.

Raila and Ruto have spent all their time and money roaming the country. One can hardly glean anything meaningful or lofty from their messaging except epithets and hot propaganda about 'wachawi', 'waganga', or 'wafisadi'.

It is all ethnic mobilisation and bedroom protection business. No solid economic proposals. No cogent public debt management proposals. However, Oka has a distinct approach to issues.

Musalia Mudavadi is quickly distinguishing himself as a serious and focused leader. He is not known to be an extremist or bullish demagogue.

He is known to be a firm decision maker and a systematic thinker. His campaign manifesto has been billed as the single most pragmatic blueprint since President Mwai Kibaki.

ANC has demonstrated that it will hit the ground running around economics. In fact, Musalia’s party has come up with the unprecedented Public Debt Management Bill.

But this bill has received cold attention from the National Assembly leadership.

The bill has not received the urgency accorded to other bills despite its import.

Mudavadi has had a successful track record in the management of public affairs.

President Moi tapped him to run the economy when Kenya had economic challenges.

Kenya faces monetary and fiscal changes. It is now times that Mudavadi turns round the economy once more as president.

Mudavadi has signature interventions and policies as a public servant.

President Kibaki asked Mudavadi to breathe life into devolution and successfully midwifed the process.

Most Kenyans will not know that Mudavadi was key in the liberalisation of the telecommunications, agriculture and financial sector spaces.

Mudavadi is the only presidential candidate who assures stability with solid intellectual credentials.

Kenyans deserve a leader who doesn’t make parts of the nation nervous.

The PhD candidate and political commentator spoke to the Star.
