Showdown looms in Parliament as pro Uhuru-Raila MPs face off with Deputy President William Ruto’s allied MPs as the House makes final decision on the Coalition Bill.

The Wednesday special session is seen as supremacy battle between the two sides.

Pro-Ruto MPs are pushing a number of amendments to water down the Political Parties (Amendments) Bill, 2021 sponsored by Majority Leader Amos Kimunya.

A number of Tangatanga MPs have lined up amendments to the Bill which will allow formation of a Coalition Party ahead of 2022 polls.

Kieleweke MPs on the other side are opposed to any further amendments to the Bill.

“My matter is on the report which has been tabled. If you read recommendation two, the committee says that recommendations for the following members should be expunged,” Garissa Township MP Aden Duale said.

“The committee has no powers to deny me the opportunity to procedure my matter. I ask you to recommend the recommendation so that we can proceed.”

On Tuesday, the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee almost turned chaotic forcing pro-Ruto lawmakers to walk out in protest, vowing to push their amendments on the floor.

The Bill is now at the stage of the Committee of the Whole House.
