Rains to continue pounding various parts – forecast

Rains are expected to continue pounding various parts of the country this week.

This is according to the latest weather report released on Tuesday. 

Kenya Meteorological Department director Stella Aura said rainfall is likely to continue over a few to several places in the highlands east of the Rift Valley, the southeastern lowlands and the Coast.

Other parts likely to receive rain include the highlands west of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, Central and South Rift Valley and Northeastern.

"Occasional isolated storms are likely over parts of the southeastern lowlands and the coastal strip," she said.

The forecast runs from December 14 to December 20.

Aura said the northwestern region is likely to remain generally sunny and dry.

She said strong south-easterly winds with speeds exceeding 25 knots (12.9 m/s) are expected over some parts of northwestern and northeastern.

The forecast showed that mornings are likely to be generally sunny in Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, West Pokot, Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Busia, Migori, Baringo, Nakuru, Narok and Laikipia counties.

Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected over a few places while nights are likely to be mainly partly cloudy.

The maximum (daytime) temperatures in the said counties are likely to range from 23 degrees Celsius to 31 degrees Celsius while minimum (nighttime) temperatures are expected to be between 12 degrees Celsius and 20 degrees Celsius.

In Turkana and Samburu counties, days are expected to be generally sunny and nights partly cloudy.

In the two counties, the maximum (daytime) temperatures are likely to range from 26 degrees Celsius to 37 degrees Celsius while minimum(night-time) temperatures are expected to be between 12 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius.

In Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi and Nairobi counties, mornings are likely to be cloudy with occasional rains over few places.

Afternoon and night showers are likely to occur over a few to several places.

The maximum (daytime) temperatures are likely to range from 20 degrees Celsius to 25 degrees Celsius while minimum(night-time) temperatures are expected to be between 10 degrees Celsius and 15 degrees Celsius.

In Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo counties, afternoons are likely to be generally sunny with occasional showers over a few places towards the end of the forecast period.

Nights are expected to be partly cloudy throughout the forecast period.

The maximum (daytime) temperatures are likely to range from 23 degrees Celsius to 36 degrees Celsius while minimum (nighttime) temperatures are expected to be between 15 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius.

In Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita Taveta counties, morning rains are likely to occur over a few places.

Afternoon and night showers are likely to occur over a few to several places.

Occasional isolated storms are also likely over a few places.

The maximum (daytime) temperatures are likely to range from 22 degrees Celsius to 30 degrees Celsius while minimum (nighttime) temperatures are expected to be between 14 degrees Celsius and 22 degrees Celsius.

In Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale counties, morning, afternoon and night showers are likely to occur over several places during the forecast period.

Occasional isolated storms are also likely over a few places.

The maximum (daytime) temperatures are likely to range from 29 degrees Celsius to 32 degrees Celsius while minimum(nighttime) temperatures are expected to be between 24 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius.
