Armed thug kills accomplice in botched robbery in Mukuru slum

Police said the guard sustained slight bruises in the struggle.

A thug has killed his accomplice in a botched robbery attempt at an engineering company, in Mukuru kwa Reuben, Nairobi.

The armed robbers had gained access to David Engineering Company in the slum on Monday  by scaling the firm’s perimeter wall.

The security guard who had initially noticed two dark silhouettes jump over the perimeter, issued a warning against any further movement but the defiant thugs advanced towards him.

The police said a struggle between the three ensued before one of the thugs attempted to stab the guard using a knife.

"The guard dashed down and the knife went straight to one of his accomplice’s eye, killing him on the spot. The suspect fell and bled to death," police said.

Police said the guard sustained slight bruises in the struggle.

The body of the deceased was moved to the mortuary for planned postmortem and identification.

The Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti said honured the guard saying  he will be celebrating this Christmas with him and his family, to encourage him and other guards to continue doing good.

“His actions helped much and needs to be honoured,” he said.

Police authorities said they have increased operations in the city to tame any planned criminal activities ahead of the festivities.

This include increased police patrols on the streets and estates.

National Police Service spokesman Bruno Shioso has also assured Kenyans of heightened security ahead of the festivities.

Shioso said security agents remain vigilant across the country but urged the public for continued vigilance and cooperation to tame any planned attacks.

“We continue to be vigilant but also urge for cooperation and vigilance. It is a concerted effort to tame any planned evil acts,” he said.

He added safety campaigns will continue in the country to address fears of accidents on the roads.
