Clifton Miheso grabbed a last-gasp brace in a record span of two minutes to fire debutants Kenya Police to an emphatic 3-1 win over pre-match favourites Kariobangi Sharks in an exhilarating Kenyan Premier League encounter at Moi Stadium, Kasarani on Wednesday.
Kenya Police head coach John Bobby Ogolla was over the moon after his side's splendid outing that marked their first win after five consecutive losses and a draw against Gor Mahia.
“This is a huge win for the team. The boys were in commendable form and our resilience paid off. I believe this has injected some confidence into the squad heading into our next matches and we should expect a lot more pleasant surprises,” said Ogolla.
As ‘The six million dollar man’ beamed off a broad smile after the final whistle, his opposite number, William Muluya, lashed out at his charges after their shock defeat to the newbies, saying they lost concentration in the dying minutes of the game.
“We need to remain focused throughout the match. We could have easily gone home with a point from this match if we had remained alert up to the end,” said Muluya.
Clinton Kinanga broke the deadlock to put the law enforcers ahead early in the game before Patilla Omoto restored parity on the stroke of halftime.
Nairobi City Stars failed to capitalise on the home advantage following their barren draw with Nzoia Sugar at Ruaraka grounds.
An interchange of crisp passes between Anthony Kimani and Oliver Maloba almost resulted in a goal in the 18th minute but a horrible final touch by the latter flushed all the effort down the drain.
Then Kimani was at the heart of another fruitless inroad in the hour mark when he picked out Nicholas Kipkirui with a pinpoint pass only for the former Gor Mahia hitman to squander the glaring opportunity.
At Wundanyi Stadium in Taveta, Hansel Ochieng's 80th-minute screamer was all Sofapaka needed to see off a resilient Wazito side in their closely contested encounter.
Sofapaka almost went ahead in the 25th minute when David Otieno teed up Sebastian Sunday but the Nigerian forward proved blunt in front of the goal with only the Wazito custodian to beat.
Nixon Omondi rattled the crossbar in the 35th minute before Lawrence Juma broke the dead lock a minute to the breather.
Wazito looked more purposeful and determined on resumption, and it wasn't long before skipper Elly Asieche came back to hound his former side with a superbly struck 55th minute goal.
Elsewhere, Mathare United held Kakamega Homeboyz to a two-all draw at Bukhungu Stadium.
