The Kenya Railways has urged customers who will be using the Madaraka Express train to arrive at the railway stations at least one hour before the scheduled departure time.

This, Kenya Railways management said, is due to an increase in the number of passengers and enhanced security checks.

Any delays occasioned by these checks are therefore regrettable but unavoidable, it said in a statement on Tuesday.

"Kenya Railways further assures the public that security checks are constantly run along all our lines to ensure the safety of all our services."

The corporation thanked all passengers for patronizing its services adding that it will continue to work with the relevant government security agencies to ensure all services run seamlessly and with utmost safety.

Kenya Railways reminded members of the public that it is a major offence to interfere with its assets, operations and services.

"As the Corporation continues to enhance safety in the provision of its services, we encourage members of the public to report any cases of suspicious activity to the Kenya Railways hotline, 0728787880 or to the nearest police station," it said.

The corporation said while passenger safety remains its priority, members of the public are reminded that they have a personal responsibility to observe safety guidelines and obey rail traffic rules as required.

It added that remains committed to delivering its mandate to the people of Kenya.

As of April 6, 2020, over 4.3 million passengers had used the Madaraka Express passenger service launched on May 31, 2017.
