Four aides to ex-Nairobi governor Mike Sonko say they are grateful that justice has finally been served following their acquittal by Court on charges of resisting arrest.

Richard Bosire, John Abok, Kennedy Odhiambo and Joseph Mwangi had also faced an additional charge of taking part in an illegal assembly outside Integrity Center.

The incident happened on November 5, 2019 at the offices of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission in Nairobi during Sonko’s grilling over corruption allegations.

However, after battling the prosecution, the four were finally set free by Milimani Senior Resident Magistrate last week after witnesses listed in the case vanished and failed to appear.

They had been initially been released on a cash bail of Sh100,000 each.

Speaking to the Star on Saturday, Bosire said he was happy that finally they are free men.

“It has taken us two years, the prosecution witnesses failed to appear because perhaps they did not have any accounts to support the case,” said Bosire.

According to the Sonko aide, they have forgiven those who pushed for their prosecution on frivolous grounds at a time when they accompanied Sonko for interrogation at the EACC headquarters.

Odhiambo said the refusal of the witnesses to appear before court proved that they had done no crime and that the charges were just tramped up.

“We are very grateful that justice has finally been served,” they said.

The four had spent one night in custody on November 5, 2019 following fracas outside the EACC headquarters where the former Governor had gone for questioning.

Police arrested a number of individuals including some from the former Governor’s communication team, during the ensuing mayhem as Sonko’s supporters crowded outside the EACC.
