Former North Imenti MP Silas Muriuki’s daughter Carol Karimi has joined the parliamentary race to unseat current MP Rahim Dawood.
Dawood dethroned Muriuki in 2013.
Muriuki who vied twice unsuccessfully has bowed out of the race and blessed Karimi to take over the mantle.
She has been holding grassroots meetings in the constituency to debunk propaganda that she is a project.
Karimi, while highlighting the failures of the eight-year rule by Dawood compared to his father’s performance said she was devastated by poor development and neglect by the current MP.
Other aspirants in the race are Nominated MP Halima Mucheke, Municipality MCA Elius Murega, Wakili Ken Muriuki and Beatrice Karwitha.
“My father served two constituencies, Buuri and North Imenti. He built several classrooms and bought buses. However, bursary funds are now issued in segregation, ” Karimi said.
“Vote out leaders who are not keen on development. Bad roads have affected boda boda riders who have to spend all their money buying spare parts.”
She spoke at Giaki Methodist Church grounds during her recent meet the people campaigns.
Due to bad leadership, Karimi said, pupils are using the same desk she used during her primary school days.
“I am not in the race because I am Muriuki’s daughter but because I know our challenges and how to tackle them,” she said.
Nyaki West MCA Martin Mworia, who accompanied the aspirant told residents that Karimi was the best bet for reviving the lost glory.
Mworia castigated Governor Kiraitu Murungi’s administration and Dawood over failure to equip health facilities with drugs and lack of good governance.
“We want the Giaki ambulance back. Farmers are suffering and we must change our leadership,” he said.
Edwin Kiongozi said Dawood has neglected residents on the issue of electricity, water connectivity and roads.
“Return the favour by voting Carol. Don't allow our people to continue to suffer. Vote wisely in 2022,” Kiongozi said.
