Four police constables have been charged with the disappearance of Philip Otieno Ondiro, who was last seen on February 1, 2015.

In a statement, the Independent Policing Oversight Authority said it initiated an investigation into the case, which revealed that four men armed with guns stormed a house in Kiamaiko within Huruma, Nairobi.

They then pulled out Ondiro, bundled him into a waiting car and drove off.

"The investigation established the incident amounted to criminal culpability and recommended to the ODPP, the prosecution of officers abducting in order to murder," Ipoa said.

Reports on the matter were received by the Authority from different sources including, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Internal Affairs Unit of the National Police Service and one of Ondiro's friends.

The Authority further stated that on Wednesday, the Chief Magistrate's Court in Nairobi issued warrants of arrest against the four officers.

They are Francis Githonga, Carlistus Ekidor Apalla, Samwel Mokaya Makori and Alex Munene.

In June 2015, Ondiro's family accused security officers of abducting their son in February.

Pamela Ondiro said her son, Ondiro, was arrested by four plainclothes police officers while watching a football match at a local entertainment joint on February 1.

“At 6 pm, the officers arrested him when he shortly stepped out during halftime. They took him away never to be seen again,” she told the Star.

She identified two of the officers, who serve at Huruma police station as Gitonga and Makori.
