Marathon world record holder Eliud Kipchoge has landed an ambassadorial job for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

In an announcement made on his social media pages, Kipchoge said he has been appointed as ambassador for Paris 2024 Olympics games.

This means that the athlete will take another stab to defend his title for the third time.

“As a proud ambassador of the @Paris2024 Olympic Games I am excited to say that for the first time in history, the marathon will be open to everyone!” he said via Twitter on Thursday.

“You can earn your bib to run on the same day and on the same course as the elite athletes.”

He is set to compete with other athletes in a running challenge to mark 1,000 days until the start of the Paris 2024 Games.

On their website, Paris 2024 said they will offer opportunities for members of the public to get close to the Olympic athletes and enjoy an experience following in their footsteps and stepping into their shoes, with two events that will be open to everyone.

These include the Mass Participation Marathon, which will follow the same route as the Olympic Marathon.

“This autumn, Paris 2024 is offering an opportunity to win a number of entries to take part in this event, through a 5km race with an original format, in Paris, on 31 October 2021, 1000 days before the Paris 2024 Games,” it said.

To win your entry for these events, you will need to earn it, showing your determination, pushing yourself above and beyond your limits.

"Some Club 2024 members have already received their entries, but there will be plenty of other chances right up until 2024 to win a golden ticket for the Mass Participation Marathon," the website read.

But on this day, it noted, it will not be enough to simply be one of the best to win your entry.

"You will need to give it everything you have got to finish ahead of a very special competitor, who is without a doubt one of the greatest athletes of all time: Eliud Kipchoge," it added.

To beat Kipchoge

The first man to run a sub-two-hour marathon will be set a major challenge.

Covering a longer distance than the rest of the runners for this special event, he will need to work extra hard to catch up with them.

The participants who manage to hold off Eliud Kipchoge’s relentless pursuit will have proven beyond any doubt that they have the mental strength needed to run a marathon.

They will head off from the Champs-Elysées with their entry for the Paris 2024 Mass Participation Marathon!
