Following rising cases of rape and defilement, the DCI has cautioned men who prey on women.

Last month, two suspects were arrested in Lamu for gang-raping a mentally handicapped woman while masquerading as good Samaritans.

According to the sleuths from DCI, Shadrack Murimi Maina (45) and Hiribae Kokane (43) subjected the woman to the act in an abandoned house in Sina Mbio area.

The detectives said that the suspects who were accompanied by a Nyumba Kumi elder Samuel Ngumi, were on patrol when they bumped into the woman preparing tea in the crime-prone area.

The victim had a loaf of bread. Fearing for her safety, Ngumi told the two men to watch over her as he went to seek help.

However, Ngumi was shocked when he returned to the spot and caught Murimi raping the woman.

Kokane fled the scene. The incident happened between 8am and 9am on Monday.

Ngumi rescued the woman with the help of residents and alerted the police.

The officers took the victim to the nearby Hindi Magogoni Dispensary for medical examination.
