On Tuesday, teachers from across Kenya received awards for their various contributions in different sectors of education.
This came as the world marked the 5th World Teachers Day, at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development.
According to Teachers Service Commission CEO Nancy Macharia, the process of identifying the teachers who received awards was done in strict adherence to the Commission’s Performance Recognition, Reward and Sanction Policy Framework.
The framework emphasizes on merit and due diligence in staff recognitions.
“I wish to state that we are not in any way suggesting that the 31 teachers are the only remarkable teachers we have in the practice. This number is just the tip of the ice berg,” Macharia said.
“TSC will continue finding more ways to ensure all our teachers feel recognised and appreciated for their work.”
The event brought together stakeholders from various teacher related organisations across the country.
Global Teacher Award winner Peter Tabichi was also among those awarded.
The World Teachers’ Day which is also known as International Teachers Day is marked on October 5 every year.
