ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi on Thursday said his party has embarked on 2022 campaigns to unite Kenyans.

Mudavadi spoke when he presided over a meeting attended by ANC members at the party's headquarters in Nairobi.

"Our agenda now is to make sure we focus on the economy so that our youth get employment and earn a living," Mudavadi said.

In what appeared to be directed at Deputy President William Ruto, he said, "I've also noticed that the other political parties have copied our slogan."

The slogan for Amani National Congress is ' Uchumi Bora', while Ruto has been fronting a bottom-up economic model.

Recently, Mudavadi trashed economic models fronted by his competitors in the presidential race saying they won’t work.

Warning that Kenyans have a long way to go before getting out of harsh economic times, the former Vice President said he has the answer to the turnaround the country needs.

“I want to be the candidate who tells Kenyans the truth that we are not in a bed of roses. It will get worse. This journey will be long,” Mudavadi said.

During the Thursday meeting, members led by Lugari MP Ayub Savula endorsed Simon Kamau Gikuru as the new ANC Secretary General.

He takes over from Barrack Muluka, who resigned in August last year.

On his part, Gikuru said the party is ready for its big win come 2022.

" We are going to make sure that come 2022, we will make history," Gikuru said.

"While we are pushing for our party leader becomes president, we must also make sure we have enough representations in the 47 counties."
