Kenya on Saturday recorded 515 new cases of the coronavirus from a sample size of 7,981 tested in the last 24 hours, with the positivity rate at 6.5%.
Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said in a statement that from the cases, 488 are Kenyans while 27 are foreigners, with 279 patients being males while 236 are females.
The youngest is a four-month-old child while the oldest is 102 years.
This brings the total confirmed positive cases in the country to 246,296, and the cumulative tests so far conducted to 2,494,312.
Kagwe said that patients 634 have recovered from the disease with 540 from the home-based isolation and care programme while 94 are from various health facilities countrywide.
Total recoveries now stand at 236,803 of whom 191,531 are from the home-based isolation and care programme, while 45,272 are from various health facilities countrywide.
Also, 15 patients have succumbed to the disease, one of them in the last 24 hours while 14 are late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in August and September 2021.
This pushes the cumulative fatalities to 4,980.
A total of 1,444 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 3,259 are under the home-based isolation and care program.
114 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 83 of whom are on ventilatory support and 25 on supplemental oxygen. 6 patients are under observation.
Another 513 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 474 of them in general wards and 39 in High Dependency Units.
VACCINATION
As of September 17, a total of 3,337,913 vaccines have so far been administered across the country.
Of these, total first doses are 2,480,543 while second doses are 857,370.
The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 34.6% with the majority being males at 55% while females are at 45%.
Proportion of adults fully vaccinated is 3.1%.
The uptake of the second dose by priority groups is as follows, aged 58 years and above are 248,048, others category are 270,655 health workers are 139,131, teachers are 127,035, while security officers are at 72,501.
