It was a night of horror.

A man's dismembered body, minus the head, was tossed in two white gunny bags from a speeding car at Konate junction in Nyamira county.

Residents on the busy Kisii-Ikonge-Nyamira road said the vehicle had no registration number. The bags were tossed at about 10pm on Monday.

Residents thronged the police vehicle that collected the body parts the next day.

Police said the bags contained red and black plastic bags containing body parts of an adult. The head was missing.

Nyamira South subcounty police commander Moses Kirong on Wednesday said the bags were dropped at about 10pm on Monday by a speeding vehicle.

"We are investigating and hope to unravel the murder," he said.

Nyamira county commissioner Amos Mariba, through his social media pages, said the DCI was leading investigations.

"It's a cold blood incident. We promise speedy action and the mysterious killers will be known," Mariba said.

The body parts were taken to Nyamira County Referral Hospital mortuary.
