Bungoma county has so far vaccinated over 34,000 people against Covid-19, in the last four months.

Health executive Dr Antony Walela however said 6,000 people who had received the first dose of AstraZeneca had failed to turn up for the second dose.

"As a ministry we are looking for the 6,000 people who have failed to show up for the second dose," Dr Walela said.

Speaking in his office on Saturday, the executive warned that people should be vaccinated twice for their bodies to be immune against Covid-19.

"You can't be vaccinated once and think that you are now immune, you should go for the second dose," he advised.

He appealed to defaulters to visit the nearest health centers for their second dose.

Dr Walela also said his ministry was going to roll out mass vaccination starting next week.

He said in the mass vaccination they will introduce the Moderna vaccine.

He added unlike AstraZeneca which was being administered only in subcounty health centers, Moderna will be given out in all health centers.

"Starting next week Moderna vaccines will be available in all health centers and there after in all dispensaries," he said.

He asked locals to turn out in large numbers and get the jabs saying they lessened conditions. He urged people aged above 40 years to be vaccinated.

"The higher the number the more the government will give us vaccines," Dr Walela said.

The executive also said Covid-19 protocols will only be removed in areas where most people had been vaccinated.
