Kenya receives additional 880,320 doses of Moderna vaccine

Kenya now has 2,284, 292 doses of vaccines that are available for administering.

Kenya has received an additional 880,320 doses of the Moderna vaccine.

This is the second batch of the 1.76 million doses donated to Kenya by the United States government, through the Covax facility.

The vaccines arrived in the country on Monday morning. 

"The 2nd batch of 880,320 doses of Moderna #COVID19 vaccine arrived in Kenya this morning. A donation of the US Govt through #COVAX," WHO Kenya tweeted.

The first batch of 880,460 Moderna vaccines arrived in the country on Monday, August 23, 2021.

This comes as a boost to Kenya's fight against the Covid-19 disease, by widening its vaccine portfolio.

Kenya now has 2,284, 292 doses of vaccines that are available for administering.

On Friday last week, Kenya received the first batch of single-shot Johnson and Johnson Covid-19 vaccines.

A Lufthansa cargo plane carrying the consignment with 141,000 doses touched down at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKI) minutes before 9pm.

The consignment was received by Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi was at the airport with other officials from the ministry, on behalf of CS Health Sen. Mutahi Kagwe.

Kenya is also expected to receive another two million doses of Pfizer vaccines, donated by the US government this month (September).

More doses of the vaccine are expected in the coming weeks as the country aims to have at least 10 million people fully vaccinated by end of the year.

As of September 4, the Ministry of Health had so far vaccinated a total of 2,862,528 people across the country, out of which are 2,050,377 are first doses, while second doses are 812,151.

Kenyans fully vaccinated are 2.98% of the targeted population.
