Five people burnt to death in Kajiado house fire

A gas cylinder in the house did not explode when the fire started.

Four members of a family and a househelp died in a house fire on Thursday night in Ormanie village, Kajiado county. 

Subcounty police commander Ahmed Hillow said the house caught fire between 9.30pm and 10pm. It was made of corrugated iron sheets. Nothing was salvaged.

“When the incident occurred, we rushed there only to find the charred remains of five people. We have not established the cause of the fire,” Hillow said.

The police boss said the family spokesman told him those in the house were an elderly woman, three of her children and a househelp.

“We also established that the man of the house is a businessman in Mashuuru town. He received information about the fire much later,” Hillow said.

The police boss said a gas cylinder in the house did not explode when the fire started.  

"We have handed the matter over to investigators to follow up and tell us what could have caused the fire. They will include the DCI and people from the Kenya Power,” Hillow said.
