Cases of men engaging in bestiality have become rampant in Baringo with residents questioning the cause of such acts instead of men approaching women.

On Friday, JK a 20-year-old youthful man was caught in the act with a cow at Kinyach in Bartabwa ward Baringo North subcounty.

The owner, William Keino said the man sneaked into his cattle shed removed his clothes and engaged in the act with one of his cows.

Keino said he heard some strange movements and thought some thieves were out to raid and steal his animals only for him to bump onto a naked man on top of his cow.

He alerted the neighbours who rushed in immediately and upon interrogation, the man confessed he was just there to pleasure himself.

“This is my first time doing this, it is the work of the devil, I beg for forgiveness it won’t happen again,” the suspect told the crowd.

The angered residents bayed for the man’s blood, they wanted to lynch him but their mission was thwarted by security officers from Kinyach police station who arrived at the scene immediately to rescue the victim.

The man was arrested but he was later released after elders negotiated for him to be discharged after being a few strokes of the cane.

Kinyach chief Eric Chebet said it is the first incident to have happened in the area saying the man hasn’t been caught engaging in any indiscipline act before.

Back in 2018, 25-year-old KJ was lynched by an angry mob in Eldama-Ravine after he was found having an unnatural act with a cow.

The incident occurred at Tinet-Sawich forest where the residents laid ambush and caught the man pants down.

The man said he had been having sex with the cow for many days because most women have HIV.

“Don't kill me, let me surrender my piece of land to pay for the cow. I always have sex with the cows but at the same time I fear girls or women might infect me with HIV,” KJ said.

He was however lynched to death.

Torongo location chief Edwin Ronoh confirmed the incident saying the man worked as a casual labourer for a local saw miller at Sawich forest.

A similar incident earlier in 2014 occurred at Kabasis in Baringo Central where a youthful was caught in the act with a sheep.

Angry residents then arrested him, tied him with a rope and frog matched him to Kabarnet police station. He was later jailed after being arraigned and charged in court.

Amos Cherop a resident from Kabarnet said the ratio of women surpasses that of men in the world questioning why some men engage in such madness.

Cherop blamed the increased cases of bestiality, rape and defilement on the frustrations owing to the hard economic times.
