Thirdway Alliance Kenya has expelled four leaders over gross misconduct and for violating the party’s constitution.

The four who were expelled include the National Chairperson Daniel Muiruri Waweru, Angela Mwikali (Deputy party leader), Giovanna Bunei (national women leader), and Joan Lagat who was the deputy youth leader.

The party said on Friday in a statement that the National Executive Committee (NEC) recommended the removal of the four without any malice, bias, or hatred.

“That the decision to expel the four members was made after extensively after attempting to explore the provisions of Articles 14 and 25 of the party constitution that provides for the Disciplinary measures of the party officials and Internal Dispute Resolution Mechanism (IDRM). These were severally frustrated by the expelled individuals,” the party said.

It added that the expelled members had been issued with show-cause letters on various dates in the months of April, May, June, and July inviting them to attend procedurally NEC meetings where they were to be taken through complaints raised against them, but they did not turn up.

“The Political Parties Dispute Tribunal delivered a judgment in complaints filed by the expelled members and others PPDT 10 of 2021 and PPDT 11 of 2021 on July 6th and 7th 2021 respectively directing that both parties do exhaust the internal dispute resolution mechanisms as provided for in the party constitution,” the party said.

Thirdway Alliance said the complaints against the expelled leaders were handled by NEC, saying that the four had for a period of more than four months absconded from duty against the explicit provisions of the party.

“The four suspended members have since joined hands with the former party leader Ekuru Aukot who is fighting in the corridors of courts to regain his position and now frustrating party operations from outside.”
