The British High Commission in Kenya has announced opening of the 2021/2022 Chevening scholarships application.
In a statement on Tuesday, the High Commission said the application period will run from August 3 to November 2, 2021.
Applications will be submitted through www.chevening.org/apply.
High Commissioner Jane Marriott said the scholarship is a fantastic opportunity for all Kenyans passionate about driving change, locally and globally.
"Your background does not matter to us – we want to see that you have energy, curiosity, compassion a clear vision for your future and the ability to achieve your goal," she said.
Head of Scholarships at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), Naomi Rayner, said that Chevening seeks to build an international community of people who are committed to working together to drive positive change and this is done by bringing together incredible people from around the world and supporting them, through education, to achieve their goals.
Since its inception in 1983, over 50,000 professionals have had the opportunity to develop in the UK through Chevening.
The scholarship offers full financial support for scholars to study for any eligible master’s degree at any UK university whilst also gaining access to a wide range of exclusive academic, professional, and cultural experiences.
Chevening Scholarships are the UK Government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and partner organisations.
The announcement comes about a month after the UK opened the new graduate route visa for international students, which allows it to retain the brightest and the best to work in the country after completion of their studies.
International students must have completed an eligible course at a UK higher education provider, with a track record of compliance with the government’s immigration requirements to apply.
Students on the graduate route will be able to work or look for work after their studies for a maximum period of two years, or three years for PhD students.
They also have the option of converting the graduate route into a work visa if they get a stable employer.
