Magarini constituency in Kilifi is set to benefit from a Sh786 million funding to implement development projects including the tarmacking of roads.

Area MP Michael Kingi said funding from the Italian government and the national government has already been approved and that documents are in Rome for final certification before the money is released.

Among the projects to be undertaken is the tarmacking of the Mjanaheri-Ngomeni road.

Speaking during the official opening of Kagombani Secondary School on Saturday, Kingi said the funds will be put to proper use.

The road leads to the Italian space agency which is in Ngomeni village. It is a renowned fishing hub.

“The funds will also be used to construct a multi-purpose hall at Ngomeni Secondary School, a kitchen and a dormitory," the MP said.

The legislator said the funding will also be used to construct a footbridge from Burangi to Sabaki to ease the movement of people across River Sabaki.

He said once implemented, Burangi residents will no longer have to travel for a long distance to Sabaki bridge in order to access Malindi town.

Kingi said part of the funding will also be used to construct a kitchen at Mamburui Dispensary and at Midodoni Primary School.

“It is a good funding and if ready I will let you know. Tendering will be done and works to begin but right now, the documents have been taken to Rome and the Attorney General has given a go-ahead for the project to be undertaken,” he said.

He called for cooperation between the people and the leadership so as to achieve many development projects in the constituency.

Initially, he said the funding used to come through the regional government and was implemented by Coast Development Authority.

In the first phase, he said they constructed Marikebuni Dispensary, Midodoni and many other projects.

“The second phase which has funding amounting to Sh786 million was stuck but I thank the national government for working hard to ensure funding will be released anytime from now. The money will also be used to build a full primary school in Burangi... eight classrooms,” Kingi said.

The MP said Burangi residents have asked to look for land for the construction of the eight classrooms, toilets, and staff rooms. He said the National Land Commission was already working on the project.
