A former police officer has pleaded guilty to the charge of impersonating Kisii Governor James Ongwae.

Kennedy Ooga Onsongo appeared before magistrate Muthoni Nzibe on Tuesday. He admitted that between March 16 and April 6, 2020, at an unknown place within the country, he falsely presented himself to one Andrew Ndirangu as the Kisii governor.

The prosecution told the magistrate the facts of the offence were not ready. The ex-cop is expected back in court on Thursday.

In the same court, another former police officer, Declarn Odongo Oyugi, pleaded guilty to the offence of possessing public stores contrary to the Penal Code.

He was charged that on April 6 at Jogoo House A, the headquarters of the National Police Service in Nairobi, he had in his possession public stores, namely police driver's permit, the property of the Administration Police Service. Such property is suspected to have been unlawfully obtained.

The prosecution had no facts of the offence and Nzibi set Thursday for reading facts to him and determining bond terms.
