Police constable Caroline Kangogo's postmortem failed to take place on Friday due the absence of Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor.

The family of Kangogo along with homicide detectives waited for more than eight hours at the Iten county referral hospital but Dr Oduor did not show up as he was notified late and could not travel.

Dr Oduor later informed the family that the autopsy would take place on Tuesday next week.

The officer's father Barnaba Kangogo was present but declined to confirm if the burial of his daughter would proceed tomorrow as had been planned.

He insisted that he wanted to leave the morgue with the body of his daughter for burial.

"All I want is the body of my daughter for burial," Kangogo said.

Caroline allegedly shot herself dead in a bathroom at her parent's home at Ngawa village near Iten as she was being sought over the killing of Constable John Ogweno in Nakuru on July 5 and Peter Ndwiga Njiru, 32, who was found dead in lodging in Juja, Kiambu county.

Circumstances surrounding her death raised a huge debate especially online as many Kenyans raised questions seeking to know if the officer shot herself dead or was killed by unknown people who may have stage managed the scene where the body was found.

Her father who is a former police officer however insisted that Caroline shot herself dead and that there was no need for speculation.

Homicide officers have however been investigating the matter and insisted on the postmortem being done.

Kangogo has explained that the bathroom in which the body was found had been locked from inside.

“We found the bathroom locked from inside and there was no way someone would put her inside and lock it. She did it herself,” Kangogo who spoke at his home at Nyawa village in Elgeyo Marakwet county said.

He said he had found a boda boda rider who dropped her near the home the night before she was found dead.

“The rider did not know that Caroline is my daughter and he says she asked him to drop her just near the home the previous night,” he said.

Kangogo said they did not notice her arrival at night until when they stumbled on the body in the bathroom.

He said the family is devastated by events leading to her death and they have no answers because she had taken her life.

Elgeyo Marakwet county commander Patrick Lumumba who led the team of officers to the scene insists that they are also treating death as a case of suicide.
