Four people have died in a grisly road accident along the Nairobi- Mombasa Highway at Mlolongo, Machakos County.

Mlolongo assistant county commissioner Dennis Ongaga said the four died on the spot after a matatu they were travelling in rammed into a stationary trailer opposite Total petrol station on Wednesday morning.

The matatu registration number KCN 289 P belonging to MAPRA Sacco was headed to Nairobi during the incident.

"It's reported that about 4:53 am at Mombasa Road opposite Total Petrol station a matatu has crushed from behind a stationery Trailer. Four passengers onboard in the matau are confirmed dead," Ongaga told the Star by phone on Wednesday.

The police boss said he was waiting to establish the number of those seriously injured in the crash.

Ongaga said Athiriver Subcounty Police Traffic Base Commander had been sent to the accident scene.
