Deputy President William Ruto was moved on Thursday following a Twitter post from the President of the United States.

President Joe Biden had tweeted that the ‘trickle-down economics has never worked and it is time to grow the economy from the bottom up and middle out.’

Ruto has been publicizing the bottom-up approach as his Hustler philosophy ahead of the 2022 general election.

According to Ruto, trickle-down economics has been practiced in Kenya for a long time, and it is time to move to the bottom-up approach which will bring onboard all Kenyans.

Echoing Biden’s words, the DP said that the global conversation about an economic paradigm shift is a wake-up call to all leaders.

“We cannot keep doing the same thing and expect different results,” Ruto said.

Ruto has been defending the Hustler narrative, saying that those who fall in the category are the answer to the country's economic woes.

He has also said the bid to end the economic distress informs his 2022 bid.

The DP had earlier said that there is a need for the country to change its economic model in order to help more than 15 million jobless Kenyans.

Last week, the DP held a meeting with former Central Bank of Kenya Governor Njuguna Ndung'u, who pledged to help him develop a new economic model through the African Economic Research Consortium.

The two held talks at the DP’s residence home in Karen, Nairobi, where Ruto said that the state of the global economy demands new thinking, bold ideas, and fresh paradigms.

In December 18, 2020, the DP had said that “We have done the economics of trickle-down for a long time and it benefits only a few people. This time, we are going to do the economics of bottom-up, from the bottom going upwards, starting with the ordinary people.”

The DP had said that with good leadership, the country can transform the lives of ordinary people, and drive small micro-enterprises.

Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungwa, a close associate to the DP said that the remarks from Biden show that the change in economics shifts is all over, hence a need to put it in action.
