Police at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Tuesday seized several kilos of narcotics drugs destined for Australia and India.
The narcotics were concealed in books and hair braids when the Directorate of Criminal Investigation Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) detectives intercepted them.
After verification, they were found to have been prohibited drugs, cocaine and Methamphetamine.
According to police, the first consignment destined for Australia from Zambia had been described as books, but on opening them, each book was found to contain an unestablished amount of Methamphetamine.
The second consignment en route to India from Juba in South Sudan was described as hair braids, but on inspection were found to contain a white powdery substance which on being tested turned to be cocaine.
“Both consignments were seized pending further investigations, with ANU detectives seeking Interpol interventions to track down the traffickers and bring them to book,” DCI boss George Kinoti said.
The value of both consignments is yet to be established.
Cases of trafficking of narcotics through JKIA have of recent been on the rise.
Police say they have been intercepting the narcotics on transit at an alarming rate.
