A mistress to the late Matungu MP Justus Murunga has claimed that he had plans to settle with her and their two children in Karen.

Agnes Wangui says Murunga had already bought a parcel of land in Karen and construction plans were in the pipeline.

“Murunga had also wished we formalise our union before making it known to his family or the public. As a matter of fact, he had wished that the same be conducted in accordance with Agikuyu marriage customs. Unfortunately, death robbed him from us before he could actualize his intentions,” says Wangui.

Wangui is responding to an application filed by Murunga’s widows who want the court to set aside an order stopping them from proceeding with the deceased's burial. The order was granted by Magistrate Agnes Makau after Wangui told the court that she is apprehensive there may be concerted efforts by the two widows to lock her and her children out of the burial arrangements and actual burial.

But the two widows-Christabel and Grace- subsequently filed an application seeking to set aside orders granted by Makau.

The duo claimed that Wangui never informed them if she had any relationship with the deceased or children with him. “It is regrettable that Wangui did not contact any of us with a view to having her concerns addressed instead of proceeding to court. This has painted the deceased and us in bad light,” they said.

Wangui through lawyer Danstan Omari has however denied claims of not making any attempt to contact the duo regarding the matter.

“The truth is that when we had agreed to meet over the same, they sent a third party who is a stranger to this case,” she says.

She says she is ready and willing to have the DNA test conducted as soon as possible but at the cost of the estate of the deceased.

Murunga’s burial has been set for November 28.
