Garissa senator Yusuf Haji is currently undergoing a five hour operation in Agha Khan hospital in Nairobi.

The Senate Security and Foreign Relations Committee chairman was flown to Nairobi for emergency treatment after he slipped and dislocated his hip at home in Garissa.

Speaker Kenneth Lusaka disclosed that the veteran lawmaker is currently admitted and called on senators to pray for him.

"Our chairman of security is undergoing operation and we just ask that we pray for him. It is a five hour operation. So that is all," Lusaka said as he adjourned the house on Tuesday evening.

Haji chaired the Building Bridges Initiative Task force.
