Nine more deaths as 53 new virus cases recorded

The Ministry of Health has said 53 new cases of the virus have been recorded in the country in the last 24 hours.

The total number of confirmed cases in the county now stands at 38,168.

The new cases were picked from 1,107 samples collected in the last 24 hours, taking the number of tests in the country to 541, 415.

 
 
 

Three individuals from the reported cases were foreigners while the rest are Kenyans.

The report sent by Health CS Mutahi Kagwe on Monday shows that 32 males while 21 are females. The youngest is a four-year-old child and the oldest is 76.

Nairobi had 11 cases, Meru 11, Kiambu 6, Uasin Gishu 6, Nakuru 4, Kajiado 3, Garissa 2, Busia 2, Laikipia 2, Machakos 2 while Makueni, Embu, Kisumu and Kwale had one case each.

The CS said nine more people succumbed to the virus, raising the number of deaths to 700.

On a positive note, the CS said that 60 people have been discharged after testing negative.

Thirty-six are from the Home-Based Care program while the 24 are from various hospitals.

The 11 cases in Nairobi are distributed as; Embakasi West 2, Lang'ata 2, Emakasi South 1, Kasarani 1, Kibra 1, Makadara 1, Roysambu, Starehe and Westlands 1.

On Sunday, 244 cases were reported as well as two deaths. Also, 40 recoveries were confirmed.
