Kenya records 98 new virus cases as death toll rises to 650

23,949 recoveries recorded so far.

Kenya on Monday recorded 98 new cases of Covid-19, raising the country's total to 37,079, Health CAS Rashid Aman has confirmed.

This was from a sample of 1,644 tested in the last 24 hours bringing the cumulative tests done so far to 518,350.

Of the new cases, 96 were Kenyans while two were foreigners.

 
 

The number of fatalities rose to 650 after another two patients succumbed to the virus.

Speaking during the daily Covid-19 briefing from Afya House, Aman said age-wise, the youngest was a nine -year-old infant while the oldest was 75 years old. 

Nairobi continues to lead in the daily positivity rate, recording 32 cases in the last 24 hours.

The capital's cumulative cases now stands at 20,253.

Other counties with new cases include; Mombasa 20, Meru eight, Uasin Gishu eight, Kiambu five, Kisumu four, Migori four, Machakos four, Elgeiyo Marakwet two, Kilifi two, Taita Taveta and Murang'a two cases each while Garissa, Kwale, Embu, Samburu and Nakuru all had one case each.

Aman confirmed that 98 per cent of the total case load in the country is locally transmitted.

Another 62 patients have recovered from the disease, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country so far to 23,949.

 
 
 

A total of 44 of those discharged were from the home-based programme, while 18 were discharged from various health facilities.
