Mob torches car involved in fatal accident

Fisherman dies as motorist in another crash.

Transport on Moi South Lake road in Naivasha was disrupted on Monday after residents of Karagita estate set ablaze a car that had hit and killed a fisherman.

During the early morning incident, the driver of the car managed to escape.

The victim died on the spot. He had been walking along the road when he was hit by the speeding motorist. Residents burnt the car before police officers arrived at the scene. 

 

Witness John Kiarie said the driver seemed drunk. “The car was in very high speed and the driver lost control, hitting the fisherman who was on his way to Lake Naivasha,” he said.

In another accident, a motorist heading for Naivasha town from Kasarani area in North Lake lost control of his vehicle on Monday morning near Morendat farm leading to his death. A passenger in the Land Rover escaped with minor injuries.

The accident occurred a few metres from the scene of another accident that occurred on Sunday last week killing an Asian trader who had left one of the hotels after golfing.

The bodies were taken to a local mortuary. Naivasha OCPD Samuel Waweru said they were seeking the driver who fled after the first crash.

“We had two accidents where two people lost their lives and the wreckage has been towed to the police station while the bodies are at the subcounty hospital mortuary,” he said.
