No deaths and 318 recoveries as Kenya's virus cases rise to 34,315

Kenya on Tuesday recorded 114 new cases of Covid-19, raising the country's total to 34,315, Health CAS Rashid Aman confirmed.

This was after a sample of 1,682 tested in the last 24 hours.

All were Kenyans except for one who was a foreigner.

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Speaking during the daily Covid-19 briefing at the Afya House headquarters, Aman said age wise, the youngest was a one -year-old infant while the oldest was 85 years old. 

Another 318 patients have recovered from the disease, bringing  the total number of recoveries in the country so far to 20,211.

A total of 263 of those discharged were from the home-based programme, while 55 were discharged from various health facilities.

Number of fatalities remains 577 as no death was recorded in the last 24 hours.

Director of Public Health Francis Kuria noted that 27 patients were under critical care with 16 on supplementary oxygen and 11 requiring ventilator support.

Mombasa has overtaken Nairobi in the number of daily cases recording 17 cases while the capital had 16.

Other counties with cases include ; Garissa 15, Kiambu 14, Kitui 14, Busia 12, Taita Taveta 8, Uasin Gishu 6, Nyeri 5, Migori 3, Machakos 2, Embu and Kisumu had 1 case each.

The CAS acknowledged challenge in contact tracing more so in hot spot areas like Nairobi and Kiambu.

 
 
 

"It became a bigger problem when the responsibility of contact tracing fell on the counties themselves," he said.
