Former Maendelea ya Wanaweka leader Risper Imali has died.
who served during the Moi regime and the mother to the chairperson of the party of Economic Democracy (PED) has died at 76 years.
Imali died on Saturday after she developed surgical complications at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret. She was 76 years old.
Imali served as the chairperson of the Maendeleo ya Wanawake in Uasin Gishu in 1994 during late President Daniel Moi's regime.
Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala and Lugari MP Ayub Savula and Sinoko MCA Antony Wabuge Sinoko are among leaders who have sent their condolences to Imali's family.
Others are Stephen Owoko businessman Ken Kigali.
Wabuge warned area leaders against using the funeral to gain political mileage. He asked leaders to instead support the family during this time of loss.
"It the time to avoid our political differences and support the family," Wabuge said.
"We stand with the family during this difficult time, Imali is not only a vibrant and visionary woman but also a woman of vision and good governance, may God rest her soul in eternal peace," he said.
Imali's son Tom Musamali who is the chairperson of the Party for Economic Democracy (PED) said burial arrangements had commenced.
"She collapsed on Sunday after church on her way home and was rushed to Moi's Bridge Nursing Home then to Cherangani Nursing Home before being taken to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret where she succumbed after a failed head surgery early Saturday morning," Tom said.
Imali is survived by seven children.
