Kenya's virus cases close to 30,000 mark after 580 new cases

The country's total now at 29,334,

Kenya on Friday recorded 580 new cases of Covid-19, raising the country's total to 29,334, Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi has confirmed.

The new positives were drawn from the 5,458 people whose samples were tested within 24 hours.

From the new cases, 530 were Kenyans while 50 were foreigners.

Speaking during the daily Covid-19 briefing, Mwangangi said in terms of gender, 336 were male and 244 were female. Age wise, the youngest was a one -year-old infant while oldest was 92 years old.

Some 198 patient have recovered from the disease, bringing  the total number of recoveries in the country so far to 15,298.

A total of 119 of those discharged were from the home-based programme, while 79 were discharged from various health facilities.

However, five more patients succumbed to the virus, raising fatalities in the country to 465.

A senior pulmonologist is among those who have now succumbed to the virus..

Ndambuki Mboloi  succumbed to severe Covid-19 disease on Thursday, according to an earlier presser by KMPDU.
