Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina was on Monday charged with ethnic contempt.

This after chief magistrate Martha Mutuku ruled that his application to stop his prosecution lacked merit and was dismissed.

Ledama had argued that the charge against him was defective and the prosecution was discriminatory in pressing the charges.

He denied the charges and has been released on Sh200,000 bond or a cash bail of 100,000.

He has been warned not to comment about the case on any platform.

The case will be mentioned on July 30.

The court had deferred plea taking after defence lawyers led by George Wajackoyah informed the court that the charge against Ledama was defective.

The lawyer applied to be given more time to  file a formal application opposing the taking of plea in the alleged defective charge against their client.

According to the prosecution, the charges against Ole Kina are contrary to the National Cohesion and Integration Act No 12 of 2008.
