IG Mutyambai pledges support to officers injured in chopper crash

Officers are recuperating at the Defense Forces Memorial Hospital.

Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai on Sunday visited the police officers who were injured in a helicopter crash in Meru county.

The chopper ferrying security team to Marsabit crash-landed in a farm at Kaithe Kithoka after developing mechanical problems on Saturday morning.

Fortunately there was no fatalities as injured passengers were rushed to hospital.

Police spokesman Charles Owino confirmed that the officers were admitted at Meru Level 5 hospital before an Air force chopper was dispatched to airlift them to Nairobi.

The helicopter had six occupants on board, 2 pilots and 4 passengers-all members of Eastern Security committee.

Mutyambai visited the officers who were recuperating at the Defense Forces Memorial Hospital after sustaining various injuries, the service said in a statement.

"I assured the Co Pilot that she will be well soon and get back to the cockpit to continue offering air support to ground operations,' Mutyambai said.

He said the Eastern Regional Commander Ms. Lydia Ligami who was among the victims told him  the team was ready to work despite the incident.

"I wished the injured officers quick recovery and assured them that National Police Service remains committed to look into officers welfare," he said.
