Over 2,000 children defiled, cases rising - Report

More than 2,500 children were defiled in 2019, an Economic Survey has indicated.

This was a drop of cases that were recorded in 2018. The 2018 cases were 2,897 while in 2019, they were 2,742 cases.

The defilement cases have been rising since 2017. According to the report, there were 974 cases in 2017, before doubling in 2018.

According to the report, there were 143 sexual assault cases in 2019. This was an increase by one from 2018.

The report noted that there were 132 cases of sexual exploitation and abuse, 114 sodomy cases,2189 cases of physical abuse and violence, two online abuse cases, 735 child pregnancy cases and 656 child marriage cases.

Over the same period, 111,866 children were neglected by their parents. Out of this number, 57,279 were males and 54,587 were females.

Meanwhile, more than 2000 cases of child trafficking have been recorded in Kenya for the year 2019.

According to an Economic Survey, 2,329 cases were recorded with a huge chunk being those abducted over the same period.
